Heaven's Sprinkler by: Sarah Konz
Pink stucco tickles my dark fingertips Mamaw preaches don't leave the room But I crave salty lips and stinging feet I float to the beach, my feet barely Graze the cement as I watch Green geckos scramble under my feet To light stucco pots with Florida palms The Florida palms praise the sun I hug the pink hotel As I rest my eyes on Baby blue and Heavy cotton clouds
A drop falls from heaven, ice My eyes wrinkle up And I let it slide down my face My mom always said rain was Zach playing in heaven's sprinklers Just as I take a breath to remember that My friend now had wings, Clouds begin to pour And I dance Across the white grains Lifting my feet, careful not to burn I can hear them calling for me but I'm restless Restless as the geckos dancing with me
Salt water runs around red painted Toes splashing Instinct controls me because for The first time in awhile I'm with Zach I dance with my friend Under heaven's sprinkler, Geckos and Florida palms Cheer us on and we put on A show for the shells until My toes get soggy and the tide Thrusts against my knees
