Rachel Hacker - Young Artist Competition 1st Place

Rachel Hacker, an Edgewood High School Sophomore, won first place out of eight finalists chosen at the Young Artist Competition on January 27.

The candidates were chosen from a recorded round to decide who would be in the finals. The final round, hosted by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, was held at the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center in Richmond, Indiana. Rachel played a piece meant for a solo flute and orchestra. It was composed by Frank Martin and entitled 'Ballade Pour Flute et Orchestra,' with a piano accompaniment done by a local college student.
The competition was open to students in grades 6-12 who reside in Wayne, Randolph, Henry, Fayette, Franklin or Union counties in Indiana and Preble, Darke or Butler counties in Ohio.

As the winner, Rachel will perform her piece with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra on March 8th and receive a $600.00 scholarship.

Congratulations Rachel for being chosen as a "Cougar in Action"!
