Mr. Ben Johnson - The Bahamas!!

What:  Island Ecology trip to Forfar Field Station at Andros Island, Bahamas.


Who?  Edgewood students who have successfully completed Accelerated, Honors or General Biology.

When?  Summer of 2008 (trip will run for 10 days in June).  Class meetings and field trips will be held in March & April.

Where?  Forfar Field Station on Andros Island of the Bahamas.  Just off the coast of this island is the third largest barrier reef in the world!!

Also, in addition to spending time in the Bahamas the group will spend two days in the Everglades National Park.

Why?  This course offers Edgewood students a unique opportunity to studey the life sciences in the field.  This excursion will be a never ending laboratory project including animal and botanical collections, field journals, population and behavioral studies, and the opportunity to work in several unique island ecosystems.

Credit?  This course has been approved by the Edgewood School Board and is worth one semester elective honors credit.  Students will earn a letter grade based on the grading scale established by the school board.  New in 2008 is the otion of college credit to any members of the class of 2008 (3 quarters via Hocking College).

Cost?  The total cost is approximately $1700.  This covers everything except passport, personal gear, and souvenirs, etc.

Chaperones?  There will be 1 Ohio certified secondary teacher with this group for every 8 students.

Applications?  Application dealine is October 19th, 2007.  Applications can be picked up in Mr. Johnson's classroom (room 212) at the high school.  The class is limited to 24 students.
